Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink (about 5–7 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. Meanwhile, cook rice using your preferred method: stovetop, rice cooker, or Instant Pot. Fluff when done.
  5. Assemble bowls by placing a layer of rice in each, followed by the beef mixture. Add vegetables and toppings of choice (like a fried egg or kimchi).

Notes

This recipe is easily adaptable: use turkey, tofu, or lentils in place of beef. Spice it up with gochujang or sriracha. Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days, and both beef and rice can be frozen for longer storage.
