Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp anise seeds optional
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon for coating

Method
 

  1. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and anise together.
  2. Rub in butter, then add egg and warm water to form dough.
  3. Knead until smooth, divide into balls, and rest covered.
  4. Roll each ball into a thin round.
  5. Fry at 350°F until golden and crispy on both sides.
  6. Dust immediately with cinnamon sugar and serve warm.

Notes

  • Roll dough as thin as possible for best crispiness.
  • Rest the dough before rolling.
  • Keep oil at 350°F throughout frying.
  • Dust with cinnamon sugar while still hot.
  • Store in a single layer to stay crispy.
