Ingredients

  • 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling, pieces chopped small
  • 8 small flour tortillas, 6-inch
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon stirred into filling
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg optional
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted for brushing
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon for coating
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce for dipping, optional
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt for caramel sauce finish, optional

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Pastry Brush
  • Shallow Bowl for Cinnamon Sugar
  • Kitchen Scissors or Knife for Chopping Filling

Method

  1. Chop apple pie filling pieces small and stir in cinnamon and nutmeg.
  2. Warm tortillas wrapped in a damp paper towel in the microwave for 20 to 25 seconds until pliable.
  3. Spoon 2 tablespoons of filling across the lower third of each tortilla. Roll firmly from the bottom, place seam-side down, and press lightly to hold the shape.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 375°F for 3 minutes. Brush taquitos with melted butter on all sides.
  5. Air fry seam-side down in a single layer at 375°F for 7 to 9 minutes, flipping once halfway, until deep golden and crisp.
  6. Roll hot taquitos immediately in cinnamon sugar to coat all sides. Serve with caramel dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Chop apple pieces small before filling - large chunks tear the tortilla and prevent a tight roll.
  • Warm tortillas before rolling or they will crack at the seam.
  • Do not overfill - 2 tablespoons per taquito is the right amount for a tight, secure roll.
  • Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes so the seam sets immediately on contact with the hot basket.
  • Roll in cinnamon sugar while hot so the coating sticks properly to the butter-brushed shell.
